Written for people researching before they commit — including Vietnamese expatriates planning a trip home. Most of what follows is background on how skin actually works and an honest survey of every treatment direction on the market, including the ones a non-medical facility should not perform.

① What “advanced skin care” actually reaches

People use “advanced skin care” as a label for anything done in a treatment room. Biologically, skin has three layers, and each method only reaches one of them. Understanding this lets you answer the question that matters most: is my concern in a layer a spa can reach at all?

Layer 1 — stratum corneum and the follicular canal. Keratinocytes are born in the basal layer, travel upward and shed after roughly 28 days in a young adult; the cycle slows with age and slows further when the barrier is damaged. When cells fail to shed on schedule, they pack into the follicular canal together with sebum. Oxidised sebum plus retained keratin is what forms a comedo — the process is called comedogenesis. Deep cleansing, suction-based extraction, enzymatic exfoliation and superficial peels all work here.

Layer 2 — deep epidermis and the lipid barrier. The barrier is a brick-and-mortar structure: corneocytes are bricks, intercellular lipids (ceramides, cholesterol, free fatty acids) are mortar. When mortar is stripped — by harsh cleansing, over-concentrated actives, post-laser healing, or a long course of topical corticosteroids — transepidermal water loss rises, skin turns red and stings, and paradoxically produces more oil to compensate. A great many “oily, acne-prone” cases are in fact barrier-impaired skin overproducing sebum. The two states need opposite approaches, and this is the single most common self-care mistake.

Layer 3 — the dermis. Home of type I collagen, elastin and fibroblasts. New collagen production declines yearly from around age 25; UV accelerates the loss via MMP enzymes that degrade collagen, and blood sugar cross-links collagen fibres, making them stiff and brittle (glycation). Static wrinkles, laxity, atrophic (ice-pick/boxcar) scarring and deep dermal melasma all live here. Pigment is likewise layered: melanin is produced by melanocytes via the enzyme tyrosinase; epidermal pigment fades relatively quickly, while pigment that has dropped into the dermis is beyond the reach of any surface treatment.

Three severities of the same complaint. Take acne. Closed comedones and mild congestion are a Layer 1 problem. Scattered inflammatory papules are Layer 1 plus inflammation. Widespread pustular, cystic or nodular acne is a medical condition requiring a physician and prescription therapy — not a treatment-room service. The same logic: dullness is not melasma; epidermal melasma is not dermal melasma; post-acne texture is not atrophic scarring. Each pair sounds alike and sits in different layers, needing different kinds of facility.

⑦ Planning the trip: patients travelling from abroad, from Ho Chi Minh City, from the Mekong Delta

For a reader overseas, “how do I fit this into my trip” comes before “which method is best”. So it comes second here.

Flying in from the US, Australia, Canada or Europe.

  • Lona recommends leaving at least 2 weeks between your last treatment and your flight. This is the clinic’s general recommendation; the exact interval for any specific procedure is set by your treating physician. The buffer exists so that if your skin reacts unexpectedly, you are still in Vietnam to have it managed.
  • Group procedures into a single trip. If you want both advanced facial care and something that belongs to the clinic side (injectables, resurfacing lasers, medical peels), say so at the outset. Sequence matters, and discovering on day two that the order was wrong costs you the trip.
  • Remote consultation before you fly. Send photographs taken in natural daylight plus a description of your concern via WhatsApp +84 777 679 902, Zalo, or email Contact@lona.vn. A remote consultation does two concrete things: it establishes whether your concern falls on the spa side or the medical side, and it tells you how many days to budget.
  • Declare your current regimen. High-strength retinoids, strong acids, oral acne medication — some must be paused beforehand, and the timing is a physician’s decision, not ours to guess.
  • Long-haul flights dehydrate skin. If you book within the first two days after landing, tell us, so we steer you toward a hydration-and-repair treatment rather than an intensive cleansing one performed on tight, dehydrated skin.

From Ho Chi Minh City — is a weekend day worth it? Honestly, it depends on your goal. For a single pre-event “refresh”, one trip is enough and makes sense. For lifting or pigment work, the nature of the problem is a series at regular intervals — ask about the expected cadence first, then decide how many visits you can realistically make before you begin. And if your concern turns out to need a physician, one clinic consultation is worth far more than one spa session.

From the Mekong provinces — same-day return. The facial treatments in this group require no downtime and cause no peeling; several service descriptions state explicitly that clients resume normal activity and work afterwards. Two treatments, BB Cover and the deep hydration protocol, run about 90 minutes according to their service descriptions. Allow extra time on the first visit for the skin assessment and consultation, then lock in slots for the whole series at once.

② The full map of methods — including the ones Lona Home Spa does not perform

The “offered” and “not in the catalogue” labels below reflect the published service catalogue as of October 2026. If you need a direction that is not listed, ask — if it is not something done here, you will be told so directly and pointed somewhere suitable.

This is the longest section, and the one we think you need most. There are roughly a dozen directions on the market. Each has a mechanism, a group it suits, and a real limitation.

1. Mechanical and hydraulic deep cleansing. Negative pressure, vortex fluid delivery or an oxygen stream lifts sebum and comedones out of the follicular canal, combined with manual extraction. Suits: oily skin, closed comedones, blackheads, congestion. Limitation: it clears what has already formed; it does not alter sebaceous gland activity, so the benefit is maintenance rather than cure. Done too aggressively or too often, it damages the barrier. Lona Home Spa performs this.

2. Superficial chemical and enzymatic peels. AHAs (glycolic, lactic) break the bonds between surface corneocytes; BHA (salicylic acid) is lipid-soluble and enters the follicular canal; enzymes (pumpkin, papain) hydrolyse the proteins binding dead cells more gently; PRX is a newer formulation designed for a resurfacing effect with minimal flaking. Suits: thickened keratin, dullness, congestion, epidermal post-inflammatory pigmentation. Limitation: no dermal reach; on inflamed or barrier-impaired skin a peel makes things worse. Lona Home Spa performs this, at superficial depths only.

3. Medium and deep chemical peels (high-concentration TCA, phenol). Controlled injury down into the dermis so the skin rebuilds. Suits: atrophic scarring, deep pigmentation, advanced photoaging. Limitation: significant downtime, risk of post-inflammatory hyper- or hypopigmentation, risk of scarring. Lona Home Spa does NOT perform this — it is a medical procedure requiring a physician’s indication inside a licensed medical facility. A spa offering deep peels is operating outside its permitted scope.

4. Non-ablative light: DPL, IPL, carbon-assisted laser. Wavelengths absorbed selectively by melanin, haemoglobin or by a carbon layer applied to the skin, converted to heat at the target without removing the surface. Suits: uneven tone, dullness, post-acne marks, oily thickened skin, mild vascular redness. Limitation: with melasma, light is a double-edged tool — wrong parameters, or treatment over inflamed skin, can darken it. Lona Home Spa performs this at care-level settings.

5. Ablative and ultra-short-pulse lasers (fractional CO2, Er:YAG, picosecond). Columns of injury through the epidermis into the dermis, or photoacoustic fragmentation of pigment particles. Suits: atrophic scarring, dermal melasma, deep freckling, structurally enlarged pores. Limitation: downtime, and a physician must assess Fitzpatrick type and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk. Lona Home Spa does NOT perform this.

6. Thermal tightening: surface radiofrequency, microneedling RF, HIFU. All deliver heat deep enough to contract existing collagen and stimulate fibroblasts. They differ in depth: surface RF conducts heat through intact skin; microneedling RF (phi kim RF) drives needles through it; HIFU focuses energy at the fascial plane. Suits: early laxity (surface RF); established laxity with lost contour (microneedling RF, HIFU). Limitation: surface RF produces moderate, cumulative change and must be repeated; the deeper devices carry burn and nerve-injury risk if misapplied and are within medical scope. Lona Home Spa performs surface RF only.

7. Delivering actives: electroporation, nano-needling, versus true microneedling. Electroporation and nano-channelling (phi kim nano) increase penetration via an electrical field or micro-tips that do not breach the barrier; true microneedling creates channels through the epidermis. Suits: clients wanting enhanced delivery without downtime (the first group); post-acne texture and enlarged pores (the second). Limitation: the non-invasive group delivers less, but carries essentially no infection risk. Lona Home Spa performs the non-invasive group.

8. Injectables: mesotherapy, hyaluronic acid filler, botulinum toxin, collagen biostimulators. Material placed directly into the dermis or deeper. Suits: dynamic wrinkles, volume loss, melasma requiring combination protocols, skin needing strong collagen stimulation. Limitation: invasive, with vascular complications possible; requires a physician. Lona Home Spa does NOT and may not perform these. If you need this direction, it belongs to Lona Skin Lab Dermatology Clinic.

9. Systemic and prescription therapy. Isotretinoin, oral antibiotics, hormonal therapy, corticosteroids, immunomodulators. Suits: severe inflammatory acne, nodulocystic acne, dermatitis, psoriasis, autoimmune skin disease. Prescription only. No spa treatment substitutes, which is why section ⑥ of this article exists.

10. Skin-whitening baths and intravenous whitening drips. There is enormous demand here — “whitening and whole-body skin care” is one of the most searched phrases in this category. We will still say it plainly: Lona Home Spa does not perform rapid whitening baths and does not perform intravenous whitening infusions. Baseline skin colour is determined by genetics and melanocyte activity and cannot be permanently changed from outside; products that produce a fast whitening effect usually work by aggressively stripping the stratum corneum or over-suppressing pigment, leaving thinner, more reactive skin that pigments more easily afterwards; and intravenous whitening is a medical intervention with unclear evidence and real risk. Our direction is to make skin brighter than its own current state by improving evenness, hydration and texture — not to promise a change of skin tone.

11. Psoriasis and inflammatory skin disease — not a spa’s work. Psoriasis is a systemic immune-mediated inflammatory disease; the plaques are thick and silvery because keratinocyte turnover is dramatically accelerated. It is not congestion-related hyperkeratosis and it does not respond to cleansing or peeling — worse, friction and abrasion over lesions can trigger new ones (the Koebner phenomenon). The correct route is dermatological treatment, and the only supportive care a non-medical facility should offer is moisturisation and barrier repair on unaffected skin, after a physician has weighed in. If you have psoriasis, active atopic dermatitis or active rosacea, see a doctor before booking anything.

12. Localised fat reduction: non-invasive versus invasive. Liposuction, injection lipolysis and cryolipolysis are medical interventions. The non-invasive direction uses energy-based devices plus manual technique to act on adipose tissue and circulation, alongside lifestyle change. Honest limitation: this is body contouring support, not weight loss; results depend on regular sessions and on diet and activity. Lona Home Spa performs the non-invasive direction.

③ What Lona Home Spa does, and why

All 23 treatments in this group are non-invasive. No injections, no deep peels, no ablative lasers, no device that breaches the skin barrier. Three reasons.

First, most concerns that walk in sit in Layers 1 and 2. Congestion, closed comedones, thickened keratin, dehydration, a barrier wrecked by over-enthusiastic actives, dullness, early laxity, a dry and mildly shadowed eye area. These respond well to surface-level work done correctly and consistently; escalating to a stronger method does not produce a better outcome, only more risk.

Second, cadence beats intensity. Corneocyte turnover takes about four weeks and collagen turnover considerably longer, so one strong session rarely outperforms a correctly paced series of gentle ones. For the lifting treatments, the service documentation states plainly that visible change requires a regular course — we keep that wording rather than promising results from one visit.

Third, a clear boundary serves you. When a case exceeds spa scope, the right move is referral, not improvisation with the tools at hand. Lona Skin Lab Dermatology Clinic at the same address handles the medical side, and precisely because referral exists we have no incentive to accept a case we should not.

The 23 treatments fall into six purposes: deep cleansing and oil/congestion control (Cacboxy, Oxy Jet, Aqua Peel, Pumpkin Peel, Carbon Laser); barrier repair (Deep Repair, Rejuvin); pigment and evenness (BB Cover, White Peel, Bright DPL, Nano-needling); glow and intensive hydration (Glow Peel, PRX Lux Skin, Bio Phyto); non-invasive lifting and anti-ageing (Active Lift, Casmara wrinkle protocol, Collagen Sheet Lifting, Eye Tech); and body contouring (abdomen, upper arms, thighs, waist, back).

⑤ What actually happens during a session

The facial treatments share a skeleton: cleanse → release congestion → extraction → the core step specific to that treatment → soothing and repair → sun protection. Two complete protocols, recorded exactly as the service documentation sets them out.

Cacboxy (SPA11) — 8 steps. 1. Cleansing: makeup removal, cleanser, exfoliation. 2. Releasing congestion: steam, pre-extraction softening, oil absorption. 3. Extraction of mature comedones, antisepsis, disinfection. 4. Tea tree mask to dry out lesions and reduce oil, combined with bio LED to reduce inflammation and swelling. 5. O2 activation to relieve the anaerobic environment inside follicles and inflamed lesions. 6. Electroporation of an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, soothing serum. 7. Scar-prevention moisturiser plus sunscreen. 8. Head and hand massage.

Abdominal contouring (SPA26) — 5 steps. 1. Measurement and consultation, protocol design and selection of the appropriate treatment frequency. 2. Acupressure massage for detoxification and muscle manipulation, releasing ligaments to shape the abdomen. 3. Fat-elimination therapy using Korean LipoZero Plus technology. 4. Volcanic mineral wrap to shape the abdominal wall and hold the result. 5. Firming treatment-cream massage to limit new fat accumulation.

The distinguishing core step in the remaining facial treatments. Oxy Jet: deep O2 wave therapy to reduce sensitivity and irritation. Deep Repair: electroporation of stem-cell extract containing growth factors for cellular-level repair. Active Lift: RF wave therapy for lifting, wrinkle reduction and facial contouring, with the Magic V-line sculpting mask technique. BB Cover: vitamin C mask with arbutin, then trace-mineral nano infusion for brightening. Pumpkin Peel: pumpkin peel at the concentration appropriate to the skin, then peel neutralisation. Aqua Peel: deep cleansing with oxygen mask peeling and oil-reducing exfoliation via hydra peeling. Rejuvin: micro-sponge spicule mask, then B-complex electroporation to reduce post-acne redness and marks. White Peel and Glow Peel: peel as indicated, then mask with Celluma LED for recovery. Nano-needling: pH balancing, numbing, skin preparation, then goal-directed nano-needling. PRX Lux Skin: PRX T33 peel as indicated, then brightening nano infusion. Carbon Laser: carbon laser pass for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect, reducing marks and oil. Bright DPL: DPL treatment, then tranexamic acid serum electroporation. Casmara Wrinkle Protocol: RF firming and muscle contouring with an Israeli regenerating mask and bio LED. Collagen Sheet Lifting: RF to stimulate collagen and elastin, with targeted massage of individual wrinkle zones using treatment ampoules. Eye Tech: targeted ampoule massage of wrinkle zones, RF, and a Dr Belter collagen sheet mask.

Every session ends with sunscreen. That is not decoration: immediately after the stratum corneum has been thinned, skin is more UV-sensitive than usual, and skipping sun protection for the following week or two is the fastest way to erase what was just achieved.

⑥ Who this group suits — and who it does not

Suitable. Oily skin, closed comedones, blackheads, follicular congestion. Thickened keratin, dullness, rough texture. Dry, dehydrated, flaking skin. Thin, compromised skin needing repair; skin after a peel or laser elsewhere; skin recovering from over-use of strong actives. Epidermal post-acne pigmentation. Early ageing: reduced firmness, fine lines, early loss of contour. Dry eye area with mild shadowing and fine lines. Anyone needing visibly fresher skin before an important occasion. Anyone wanting improved firmness and contour across abdomen, waist, back, upper arms or thighs.

Not suitable — and this is the part we most want you to read.

Severe inflammatory acne. Multiple pustules, cysts, nodules, widespread inflammation, tenderness on touch. Extraction and surface treatment over active severe inflammation spreads damage and causes scarring. This needs a physician and prescription therapy: go to Lona Skin Lab Dermatology Clinic.

Dermal melasma. Once pigment sits in the dermis, no non-invasive treatment removes it. Surface work can brighten and even out tone, but anyone promising to “clear melasma” with a spa treatment is not telling you the truth. Melasma requires a physician to classify the type, rule out hormonal and drug triggers, and build a combination protocol.

Atrophic (pitted) acne scarring. This is lost dermal tissue. It requires controlled injury at that depth — clinic work. Treatment-room care improves surface irregularity and surrounding tone only; it does not fill scars.

Active skin disease. Psoriasis, flaring atopic dermatitis, active rosacea, fungal infection, active herpes, unhealed wounds. Do not book; see a doctor first.

Acute topical-steroid-damaged skin. Intense burning, flaring breakouts, constant stinging. This phase needs physician supervision; repair treatments belong only after it has settled.

Anyone on skin-thinning medication. Currently taking or recently off isotretinoin, using high-strength retinoids, or recently treated with laser or a deep peel. You must wait, and the waiting period is your treating physician’s call.

Pregnancy. Not an automatic exclusion, but it narrows the list: within this group, the treatments documented as gentle and suitable during pregnancy are Oxy Jet and Pumpkin Peel. Energy-based devices, higher-concentration peels and body contouring are not. Tell us you are pregnant when you book.

Anyone expecting the results of an invasive procedure. If you want deep static wrinkles erased, facial volume restored, or rapid loss of measurements, this non-invasive group will disappoint you — not because it is performed poorly, but because it was never designed for that goal.

⑧ Frequently asked questions

What are the steps in an advanced facial treatment?

Six groups of steps: cleansing (makeup removal, cleanser, exfoliation); releasing congestion (steam, pre-extraction softening, oil absorption); extraction and disinfection; the core step specific to the treatment; soothing, repair and hydration; and sunscreen. The difference between all 23 treatments lies almost entirely in the core step.

How does a spa peel differ from a clinic peel?

By depth and by who indicates it. Superficial and enzymatic peels act within the stratum corneum, require no downtime, and fall within a care facility’s scope. Medium and deep peels create controlled dermal injury, require downtime, and must be indicated by a physician in a licensed medical facility. Lona Home Spa performs superficial peels only.

I have psoriasis — what skin care is appropriate?

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease, not congestion-related thickening, and it does not respond to cleansing or peeling. It needs dermatological treatment. The only supportive care appropriate from a non-medical facility is moisturisation and barrier repair on unaffected skin, after your physician has advised. We do not treat psoriatic lesions.

Do you offer skin whitening?

No. We do not perform rapid whitening baths or intravenous whitening infusions. Baseline tone is genetically determined; fast-whitening approaches typically trade a thinned stratum corneum and more reactive, pigment-prone skin for a short-lived effect. What we do is improve evenness, hydration and texture so skin is brighter than its own current state.

Where can I get advanced skin care in Can Tho?

Lona Home Spa — T2 Dinh Cong Trang Street, Ninh Kieu Ward, Can Tho City, Vietnam — performs 23 non-invasive advanced facial and body treatments. If the skin assessment shows your condition needs medical intervention — severe inflammatory acne, dermal melasma, atrophic scarring — you will be referred to Lona Skin Lab Dermatology Clinic in Can Tho at the same address, under a specialist dermatologist.

Do you speak English, and can I consult before flying in?

Remote consultation before travel is the standard route for overseas clients: send daylight photographs and your concern via WhatsApp +84 777 679 902, Zalo, or Contact@lona.vn.

How far in advance of my flight home should I finish treatment?

Lona recommends leaving at least 2 weeks between your last treatment and your flight. This is the clinic’s general recommendation; the exact interval for a specific procedure is set by your treating physician.

How often should I have advanced facial treatment?

The interval depends on the treatment and on your skin, so it is set after the skin assessment rather than by a universal number. For the lifting treatments specifically, the service documentation states that visible change requires a regular course.

I had laser treatment elsewhere — can I book here?

There is a treatment group designed specifically for post-treatment skin (after peels, lasers or strong actives), focused on soothing and barrier repair. But when to start is decided by the physician managing your case. Tell us exactly what was done and how long ago.

Is extraction included in the price?

In the facial group, extraction of mature comedones with antisepsis and disinfection is part of the standard protocol. All figures quoted are listed prices, before any seasonal offers, and subject to adjustment according to each client’s individual condition.

Why are the five body treatments unpriced?

Because their first step is measurement, protocol design and selection of treatment frequency. Without that step there is no protocol, and without a protocol any quotation is meaningless. These require an in-person assessment before a quotation.

Will I peel or need to stay home afterwards?

This group is selected for no downtime; several service descriptions state clients resume normal activity and work afterwards. Diligent sun protection in the following days is mandatory.

⑩ Home care after treatment

One session only resets the starting point; the other 27 days of the cell cycle are yours. After the cleansing and superficial-peel treatments, the minimum is a gentle cleanser, a barrier-repair moisturiser and daily sunscreen in adequate quantity. After barrier-repair treatments, favour hydrating and soothing products and pause strong exfoliating actives. After pigment-focused treatments, sunscreen is the deciding factor — without it, every brightening session is cancelled out. The corresponding product ranges (gentle cleansing, barrier repair, sun protection, brightening) are available at lona.vn. If you are unsure, send us your current product list for review — a large share of “ruined skin” cases are simply three home products combined badly.

⑨ Message us

If you have read this far and still are not sure whether your concern falls on the care side or the medical side, that is the question to ask before booking anything. Send photographs taken in natural daylight with a description of your concern, and a dermatologist and skin-analysis specialist will tell you which direction you should take — including when the honest answer is that you should not book any treatment yet.
